Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How often do I need to water my topiary?

A. That depends on several factors.
      1. Relative humidity. If the relative humidity is low, then you need to water more often.
      2. Air movement. If your topiary is placed where it is subjected to moving air, etc. under
a fan, air conditioner vent, open window, or outside, then it will need more frequent
        watering.
      3. Weight and color of topiary. When topiary becomes lighter in weight and lighter in color,
        it needs watering.

Q. How do I water my topiary?

A. To water your topiary, you need to totally immerse it in water. Hold it under the water
for a few minutes, until it is completely saturated. Take out of the water and let
excess water drain, then put it back in its place. If your topiary is too large to dunk,
you need to set it under a slow stream of water and let it soak in. Your topiary also
likes to be misted, however, don't use misting as a substitute for dunking.

Q. How do I fertilize my topiary?

A. To fertilize your topiary, we recommend that every time you water, add a one
quarter strength of fertilizer solution to the water that you use for dunking.

Q. Where can I place my Topiary?

A. Our Topiaries have been acclimated to lower light growing conditions. It is best to put
them where they will get bright indirect lighting, such as near a window facing east,
south or west. As long as the light can cast a shadow, they should do fine.

Q. How long does it take my Topiary to cover with Ivy?

A. Given optimum growing conditions, keep moist at all times, sufficient light, regular
fertilizing, high humidity, and warm growing conditions, 75F+, it should take two to
three months to be well covered.

Q. How do I re-plant my Topiary, if it dies or add extra plugs to a living one?

A. First, you need to soak your Topiary in a pot of water until it is completely saturated.
Next, if you are re-planting a Topiary with dead runners on it, look for all of the hair pins
and pull them out, then pull off the dead vines, tracing the stems back to the root mass.
Carefully remove the root mass, then insert your thumb in the hole, using your thumb to
enlarge it. Now, get your plug of Ficus and gently roll the root mass between your thumb
and fingers to remove most of the soil. Gently roll the root mass to look like the
shape of a pencil and insert into the enlarged hole, being very careful not to break any
of the stems. For planting extra Ficus in a Topiary that already has live Ficus
on it, feel with your thumb or use a Dibble or Phillips Screwdriver to find a spot where
you can make another hole to insert a plant. Use your Dibble or Screwdriver to make
a large hole, then continue with the above instructions to plant your vine.

Q. How tall will my Topiary grow?

A. All of our Topiaries are made from sturdy welded steel wire, so they won't get any
bigger than the size of the frame.
